The Met to Host Q&A with Erdem Moralioglu: A Fashion Icon's Journey
The Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute is set to host an exclusive Q&A session with the renowned fashion designer Erdem Moralioglu on January 27th. This event, titled 'Atelier With Alina Cho', will offer an intimate conversation with the creative director, providing an insightful glimpse into his world.
Erdem Moralioglu, a London-based designer, is celebrating his company's 20th anniversary with the release of a comprehensive 368-page book titled 'Erdem' published by Rizzoli. His journey to the top of the fashion industry is marked by a deep appreciation for the arts and historical research. Moralioglu's work has been showcased at the British Museum, where he has also staged several fashion shows, and he recently opened his second London store on Sloane Street with P.Joseph Architecture & Design. He also has a strong presence in South Korea.
At the upcoming event, attendees will have the opportunity to delve into Moralioglu's creative process, design philosophy, and the intricate craftsmanship that defines his work. His collaborations with industry icons like Anna Wintour, Christian Lacroix, Charlie Porter, Hanya Yanagihara, Glenn Close, and Ruthie Rogers will be a highlight. Born in Montreal to a Turkish father and a British mother, Moralioglu studied at the Royal College of Art in London, where he earned his master's degree in 2003. He launched his company two years later and has since received numerous accolades, including the British Fashion Council/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund Award in 2010 and the BFC Womenswear Designer of the Year Award in 2014. He was also honored with an MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours List five years ago.
The 'Atelier With Alina Cho' series, made possible by the Doris & Stanley Tananbaum Foundation, began in 2014 with conversations between Alina Cho and Anna Wintour, as well as the Costume Institute's chief curator, Andrew Bolton. This Q&A session with Erdem Moralioglu will be the first in over a year, following Thom Browne's interview last fall. It will join a prestigious list of designers who have participated in the series, including Tory Burch, Michael Kors, Vera Wang, Pierpaolo Piccioli, Donatella Versace, Christopher John Rogers, and Olivier Rousteing.
This event promises to be a captivating exploration of the fashion world's finest, offering a rare opportunity to engage with a designer whose influence and talent are widely recognized. Don't miss out on this chance to learn from a true master of his craft!
