Winter Storm Alert: Western Pennsylvania Braces for Impact
As a snowstorm blankets Western Pennsylvania, Live Drive 4 brings you an up-close and personal view of the road conditions. The video above shows the reality of driving in this winter wonderland, and it's not for the faint-hearted!
Canonsburg, a town off North Central Avenue, is currently facing treacherous roads. Our reporter describes the build-up of snow as "obvious" and "slippery." Even the main roads, like I-79, are slick and challenging to navigate. PENNDOT has announced speed restrictions of 45 mph on these highways, urging drivers to exercise extreme caution.
But here's where it gets controversial... PENNDOT claims they have a full team of operators and rental trucks ready to tackle the storm. They say they began pre-treating the roads today and will continue to clear them throughout the storm's duration. However, as our reporter points out, the side streets and neighborhoods have not been touched, making driving extremely difficult.
And this is the part most people miss... the impact on daily life. We spoke to shoppers at a hardware store, and the owner of Rollers in Mount Lebanon shared that they were selling out of shovels and ice melt. People are preparing for the worst, weatherproofing their homes, and stocking up on essentials. One resident even mentioned delivering fresh food to their mom to ensure she's comfortable and safe during the storm.
As we move closer to Canonsburg Park, the roads remain untouched, emphasizing the need for caution. PENNDOT's advice is clear: "Do not drive unless absolutely necessary."
Live Drive 4 will continue to provide updates on the road conditions and the storm's progress. Stay tuned for more!
